FOUR GOAL SECOND PERIOD POWERS McCABES TO WIN

McCABES 5, FIRST GENERAL 1
(Series tied 1-1)

McCabes used a four goal second period outburst to climb back into their series against First General with a 5-1 win on Monday Night.  McCabes opened the scoring on a goal by Chris Bacigalupo which was matched by Dan Dalzell’s marker with under two minutes left in the first for First General.  Dave Nichol, Tyler Brown, Chris Dunford and Ben Williams each scored the second period goals for McCabes in the win.  Game three of their series goes Wednesday Night at 10:15pm at the Sleeman Centre.

BOBBY O’BRIENS 2, BILLINGS 1
(Series Tied 1-1)

Bobby O’Briens used a relentless penalty kill with under three minutes left to kill off a 5 on 3 powerplay to hold on to the 2-1 win in a goalie duel. Mike Groves scored the winner for Bobby O’Briens with just over five minutes left in the second period, while Kyle Winters had the other goal for Bobby’s. Adam Leonhardt added two assists in the win. Ron Sartor scored the lone goal for Billings. Game three goes on Wednesday Night at 11:15pm.

WELLINGTON BREWERY 8, ALBION PIRANHAS 3
(Wellington Wins Series 2-0)

Wellington Brewery completed the sweep of the Piranhas with a convincing 8-3 win on Monday Night. Todd Hlushko and Mike Oldreive lead the Brewery attack with one goal and two assists each, while Kurt MacArthur added two goals for Wellington. Trevor Harkley, Tom Howse, Paul Bertholot and Scott Galadja each added single goals for the winners. Kevin McCann and Chris Bower each had a goal and assist for the Albion Piranhas, while Jason Heath had the other Albion goal. Wellington now advances to the second round.

BILLINGS BEGINS TITLE DEFENSE WITH WIN

BILLINGS 5, BOBBY O’BRIENS 1
(Billings leads series 1-0)
Defending ‘A’ Division Champions Billings began their 2009 GARHL playoff with a big win over rival Bobby O’Briens. Billings got out to a three goal first period lead with goals from Brian Manuro, Jeff MacDonald, and Ron Sartor. Brian Rawbone and Lenny Fonte added the other Billings goals, while Dave Newell added two assists.
Rob Craig broke the Billings shutout bid with the lone goal for Bobby’s.

CURWINS 3, WIT 1
(Curwins leads series 1-0)
Curwins won a penalty filled game with two goals late in the second period to secure their game one win. Jay Peart, Mike Chapman and Topher Baker scored for Curwins, while Jeff Peart added two assists.
Tim Lodder had the lone WIT goal, scored shorthanded in the first period.

GOBLINS 4, ALCO VALVES 2
(Goblins lead series 1-0)
The Goblins and Alco series began with a very entertaining game. The Goblins had a 2-1 lead after the first fifteen minutes on goals from Matt Belluz and Sean Stafford. Darryl Parsons had the lone Alco goal in the first. The Goblins then added another goal in the second by Kevin Kelly. Alco responded quickly after with a goal by Nic Stadjuhar to make it 3-2 but could not complete the comeback as Blair Conrad added an empty netter to ice the game for the Goblins.

WELLINGTON BREWERY 10, ALBION PIRANHAS 1
(Wellington leads series 1-0)
Kurt McArthur, Tom Bothwell, and Todd Hlushko each had two goals to lead Wellington to the rout of Albion. Scott Galajda and Paul Bertholot each added one goal and three assists, while Mike Oldrieve and Tom Howse added the other Welly goals.
Chris Bower had the lone goal for the Albion Piranhas.

DOOGIES 5, CHIEFS 2
(Doogies wins series 2-0)
Doogies completed the sweep of the Chiefs with a 5-2 win. Mike Comeau had two goals and assist for Doogies while Corey Savery, Mickey Zanardi and Paul Brydges each had the other goals. Ryan Adshade and Jimmy Gordon each chipped in with two assists.
Andrew Abel led the Chiefs attack with a goal and an assist while J.P. O’Connor added the other Chiefs goal. Mike Minor and Adam Schill each added an assist.

TIM HORTONS 4, POUR HOUSE 2
(Tim Hortons leads series 1-0)
Jack Kemper, Glen Teasdale, Geoff Teasdale and Mike Selman each had single goals for Tim Hortons as they jumped out to an early series lead with the win. Chris Brown and Chris Heslop each added two assists in the win for Timmy’s.
Mike McTaggart and Geoff Mitchell each had the goals for Pour House

DOOGIES ROUTS CHIEFS IN PLAYOFF OPENER

The 2009 GARHL Playoffs started on Monday and here are the results from the first few games.

DOOGIES 9, CHIEFS 3
(Doogies leads series 1-0)
Paul Brydges (3G, 1A) and Mike Comeau (1G, 3A) both had four point nights as Doogies routed the Chiefs in game one of their best of three series in B Division action. Jimmy Gordon and Mickey Zanardi each had two goals, while Ryan Adshade and John Cuyler each added three assists in the win.
Mike Minor, Michael Byrne and JP O’Connor added singles in the loss for the Chiefs while Scott Connors helped out with two assists.

FIRST GENERAL 3, McCABES 2 – Shootout final
(First General leads series 1-0)
First General erased a two goal deficit late in the second period, including the tying goal with fifty five seconds left, to come from behind and force a shootout and a victory against McCabes in their playoff opener. Dave Nichol and Stephen Goetz scored in a losing effort for McCabes, while Scott Currie-Mills and Andy Marshall had the goals in regulation for First General. Ben Williams scored first for McCabes in the shootout. Scott Currie-Mills tied the game on First General’s final shootout shot and Sam Houston scored the sudden death shootout winner for First General. Jay Berry had the shootout win for First General.

STATE FARM 7, MELITRON 3
(State Farm leads series 1-0)
Brad Roach and Jason Marcone each had two goals for State Farm, while Eric Brohman, Paul Iacocca and Mark Patrick each added a goal each for the winners. Jamie Malleau and John Lanutti added three assists each for State Farm.
Jamie Prince led the Melitron attack with two goals and Ben Brideau added the other goal. Conner Van Brederode and Harrison Warmington each added two assists.

GARHL PLAYOFF MATCHUPS

After yet another successful GARHL regular season we are ready for the 2009 Playoffs.  The playoff format is a best 2 out of 3 playoff series. Any game ending in a tie will go directly to a 3 round shootout. If still tied after 3 rounds we will go to a sudden death shootout, the winner of the shootout will be the game winner. The Playoff schedule will be released asap, but for now take a look at the playoff matchups.
