GARHL FINALS MATCHUPS SET

The end is near for the 2015 GARHL Playoffs  as the Finals Matchups are now set and ready to go.

Starting in the A Division, The South End Maulers disposed of Wellington Brewery 3-2 in a Game Two shootout to win the series 2-0.  A tightly contested series had close finish in the shootout.  The South End Maulers advance to the GARHL Finals for the second straight season as they look to win their first GARHL A Division Title.

The Maulers opposition was decided on Wednesday night at the Sleeman Centre, as RU Serious erased a quick two goal deficit with six unanswered goals of their own en rout to a 6-2 win over Cavalry Contracting.  RU Serious wins Game Three and the series 2-1 in advancing to the GARHL Finals for the fourth time in five seasons.  RU Serious looks to claim the title for the fourth time as well in as many season as they were knocked out before the Finals last season.

There was drama in the B Division Semi Finals as well on Wednesday night at the Sleeman Centre.  The number three seed, Homes By Hillson upset number two seeded Craig Bowman Roofing 5-4 in Game 3 and thus winning the series 2-1.  Homes By Hillson  came from behind to tie the game and kill off a 5 on 3 penalty kill late in the game to send the game to a shootout, where they would claim victory.  Homes By Hillson (formerly State Farm) advance to the GARHL Finals for the first time since 2010, when they won the B Division Title.

Billings, erased a one game deficit to defeat Tim Hortons in Games Two and Three to advance to the GARHL Finals with a 2-0 Game Three win.  Billings, led by goalie John Biro who allowed one goal in the final two games of the series, look to repeat as B Division Champions as they take on Homes By Hillson in the Final that begins on Wednesday April 1 at the Sleeman Centre.

GARHL PLAYOFF UPDATE

The GARHL Semi Finals are off to wild start as one series is already pegged the distance and a top seed is on the brink of elimation.

In B Division action on Wednesday night, it was the number five seed Tim Hortons shocking the top seeded Billings Orthotics 3-0 in game one of their best of three series.  Scott Ross had his third shutout of the playoffs in the win for Tim Hortons.  Game two goes Monday night at the Sleeman Centre.

In the other B Division Semi Final, Craig Bowman Roofing held of a late Homes By Hillson attack to cling on for a 2-1 win and a 1-0 series lead.  Game two goes on Monday night.

In the A Division, the RU Serious/Cavalry Contracting series is living up to its billing as it will go the distance with both teams splitting the first two games.  RU Serious won game one with a 4-3 shootout win.  Game two saw Cavalry score twenty seconds into the game and they never looked back, as they won convincingly 4-0.  Game 3 will go on Wednesday March 25 (Time TBA)

The South End Maulers took the series lead in the second A Division Semi Final.  Wellington Brewery jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in Game 1 vs The South End Maulers but a six goal second period explosion lead the league leading Maulers to a 7-2 romp of Wellington.  Game two will go Monday night.

GARHL SEMI FINALS SET

The first round of the 2015 GARHL Playoffs are officially done and now its on the Semi Finals.

In the A Division, the top seeded South End Maulers completed their sweep of the Young Guns with a decisive 7-2 win in Game Two.  The Maulers advance to take on #4 Wellington Brewery, who disposed of Bobby O’Briens in a shootout on Monday night.  Their series starts on Wednesday, March 18.

The second Semi Final in the A Division will pit #2 RU Serious vs #3 Cavalry Contracting.  These two playoff rivals will face off in another playoff series starting on Monday March 16.  RU Serious defeated The Goblins in Game 2 on Wednesday Night to advance and complete the series sweep.

The B Division saw #5 Tim Hortons, who are still looking for their elusive first GARHL Title, defeat #4 OHL Experience in a deciding Game 3 with a 3-0 win.  Scott Ross had the shutout for Tim Hortons.  They will now play top seeded Billings, who advance with a tight 3-2 win over The Belugas in Game 2.  Jay Berry was exceptional in goal for The Belugas in Game Two, but The Belugas could not muster up enough offense to advance.  The Billings/Tim Hortons series begins on Wednesday March 18.

Finally, #2 Craig Bowman Roofing advanced to the Semi Finals with a narrow 3-2 win over a gritty Pour House club on Wednesday night.  Craig Bowman Roofing completed the sweep and will take on #3 Homes By Hillson.  These two teams were separated by a mere two points in the regular season.  Game One of this series goes on Wednesday night at the Sleeman Centre.

TWO MORE TEAMS ADVANCE TO SEMI FINALS

Wellington Brewery and Homes By Hillson both advanced to the GARHL Semi Finals with shootout wins on Monday night at the Sleeman Centre.

Wellington Brewery jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the hockey game only to have Bobby O’Briens fight back with three unanswered goals.  Bobby’s seemed to have the game locked up until a face off with 2.5 seconds remaining in their own end led to the tying goal for Wellington with 0.4 seconds on the clock.  Wellington proceeded to win the shootout and advance to the GARHL Semi Finals, their opponent is still TBA.

In the B Division, we had two very entertaining games.  First, The OHL Experience fought off a late Tim Horton’s attack to win game two, 3-1, and force a third and deciding game on Wednesday night at the Sleeman Centre.

Homes By Hillson continued on their regular season success and defeated Baker St. Station 4-3 in a shootout to advance to the GARHL Semi Finals.  Baker St fought back from a three goal deficit to send the game to the shootout but Homes By Hillson was dominant in the shootout and advanced.  Their opponent is also TBA.

CAVALRY FIRST TO ADVANCE TO SEMIS

Cavalry Contracting punched their ticket to the GARHL Semi Finals with a 2-0 series sweep of The Thirsty Canucks.  Cavalry, led by goaltender Rob Bryant’s two shutouts in the series, kept the Canucks off the board in both games.

In other A Division Series, the South End Maulers defeated The Young Guns 1-0.  The second seeded RU Serious beat The Goblins 5-1, while Wellington Brewery skated past Bobby O’Briens with a convincing 6-2 win.

In the B Division, top seeded Billings cruised past The Belugas 5-1 in game one.  Craig Bowman Roofing defeated the Pour House 4-1, while number three seeded Homes By Hillson shutout Baker St Station 4-0 in game one.  The only upset saw #5 Tim Hortons narrowly escape with a 1-0 win over #4 The OHL Experience in game 1.
